50-Year-Old Man Dies Following Traffic Collision

[Updated: Police have confirmed that a 50-year-old man has died.]

Emergency services responded to a collision involving a motorcycle and taxi, at approximately 12.30am this morning [Sept 4] on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish.

Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service personnel tended to the injured rider before he was transported by ambulance to King Edward Memorial Hospital.

Police closed the road, diverting traffic away from the scene while Traffic Collision Investigators conducted their investigation. The taxi driver appeared to have suffered minor injuries. Details are limited at this time, however we will update as able.

Update 3.23am: A Police spokesperson said, “At approximately 12:05am on Sunday September 4th, police and first responders received a report of a road traffic collision that took place between a motorcycle and a taxi on North Shore Road, Hamilton Parish [just east of Harlem Heights].

“It appears the male rider who was travelling in a westerly direction overtook traffic and collided with the taxi travelling in the opposite direction.

“The 50 year old man was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.”

Update Sept 5, 2.22pm: The police have now confirmed the death of 50-year-old Anthony Williams. This is the 10th road fatality of 2016.
