Thompson Accepts Leadership Role At Chamber
Tashae Thompson, product development manager for the Bermuda Tourism Authority, is the new chairperson of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce Tourism Division.
Ms Thompson replaces Lamar Caines who departed the tourism industry to take on a role with the Bermuda Monetary Authority.
Ms Thompson has 10 years of experience in the local tourism industry and is responsible at the BTA for the management, execution and growth of on-island events and experiences that empower local entrepreneurs and improve the visitor experience.
Since 2014 she has played a critical role in the tourism experiences investment process, the introduction of a Bermuda Carnival, and the first-ever Bermuda Food Truck Festival. She also has oversight of Bermuda’s three Visitor Information Centres.
“Tashae already has a full plate of important responsibilities at the BTA and I think the whole team is inspired that she would raise her hand to take on even more responsibility,” said BTA CEO Bill Hanbury.
“She is just one of the dedicated Bermudians at the BTA who give more than is expected of them every day because they care deeply about their country. I think they are true patriots of Bermuda.”
Ms Thompson has an undergraduate degree in economics as well as an MBA and post-graduate degree in sports business management. She worked for the former Bermuda Department of Tourism before transitioning to the BTA.
Ms Thompson said: “One of my first objectives with the Chamber’s Tourism Division is helping tourism businesses tailor their products and services to the new kind of Bermuda visitor that is coming to the island.
“Today’s visitor is younger, more experiential and trying to find culturally rich experiences. This is a lot different than just five years ago and we have a lot of research data to share that can help businesses meet the desires of these visitors.”
Kendaree Burgess, Executive Director at the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce stated: “The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce Tourism Division would like to welcome its new chairman, Tashae Thompson.
“Tourism plays a key role in Bermuda’s sustainability; it is a significant source of our success as an island. We are confident that her wealth of knowledge and experience in the industry will help her to steer the division and further develop our tourism product.”
