Court: Man Pleads Guilty To Assaulting Police

February 14, 2017

Appearing in Magistrates Court, a 28-year-old man admitted offences including dangerous driving, riding whilst disqualified, and unlawfully assaulting a police officer.

Stevon Lightbourne pleaded guilty to multiple offences which started from the first action of going through a police speed check at 75kph on Sunday 12th February.

In addition to the speeding charge, Lightbourne plead guilty to offences including dangerous driving,  riding whilst disqualified, and unlawfully assaulting a police officer.

The Crown Prosecutor told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that on South Road in Devonshire, Lightbourne was clocked at 75kph. Lightbourne was then chased down by a police officer on a motorcycle.

Lightbourne caused oncoming traffic to swerve and eventually made a fast U-turn which resulted in a collision.

Lightbourne attempted to run off but was caught and captured by the pursuing policeman, and it was during this struggle that Lightbourne assaulted the policeman.

The Magistrate ordered a Social Inquiry Report, set bail at $5,000 with one surety, and set sentencing on all matters for April
