Artists Show Support For Adult Education School
A wide variety of local art will be on display at the Adult Education School’s annual art auction and cocktail event at Goslings Wine Cellar this evening, with the event — entitled Transformations IV — set to feature over 20 local artists, while aiming to raise funds to increase the capacity and scope of support offered to adult learners in Bermuda.
The Adult Education School, located on Dundonald Street in Hamilton, offers classes in basic math, reading and writing as well as preparation for the High School Equivalency Diploma [GED].
All students over the age of 16 are welcomed and accepted. Class sizes are small and the school promotes learning in a safe and non-judgemental environment.
Notable artists exhibiting at the event include Robert Bassett, Katherine Summerville, Amanda Temple, Jean-Pierre Rouja, Kathy Zuill and Meredith Andrews. Several pieces are also being donated by former students and their families.
Over 30 pieces have been generously gifted to the silent auction including paintings, photography, mosaic and mixed media.
Donna Daniels, Executive Director of the Adult Education School commented, “Over the age of eighteen, there is no public funding for education, however, there is a significant population of adults who need support in order to find employment and contribute to society.
“The school currently catering to the needs of 60 students but is unable to meet the needs of several others who wish to enrol. The funds raised by the art auction will help us to serve these persons.”
Tickets for the event are $45 and include drinks and canapes. They are available by contacting the Adult Education School on 292 5809 or info@aes.edu.bm.
