Bermuda Celebrates 50 Years In CONCACAF
Bermuda will celebrate 50 years as a member of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football [CONCACAF], and the President of CONCACAF Victor Montagliani will visit Bermuda to be a part of the celebration.
The BFA said, “The Bermuda Football Association [BFA] has enjoyed a stellar 2016-2017 season.
“While the BFA prepares to award all the champions and outstanding players for the season, the BFA is also putting the final touches on their 50th anniversary weekend.
“Throughout this season, we have seen the making of history with Robin Hood Football Club winning their first Premier Division Championship.
“We also saw X-Roads Football Club win the First Division and be promoted to the Premier Division for the first time in their history.
“Most recently, we have witnessed dominance with the PHC Raiders winning the Master FA Cup Final and the PHC Zebras winning their 11th FA Cup Final.
“Today, BFA President Mark Wade announces Bermuda will also celebrate 50 years as a member of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football [CONCACAF]. The BFA have planned a weekend of activities to celebrate this milestone!
“The President of CONCACAF, Victor Montagliani, will visit Bermuda to be a part of the celebration. Currently, the schedule of events for the weekend will be the following:
- On Friday, April 21st, CONCACAF President will help to officially open the Clyde Best Center of Excellence on behalf of FIFA president Gianni Infantino. He will then be a guest of honor at a private reception for invited guest and friends of football.
- On Saturday, April 22nd in the morning the BFA will hold the annual Football Symposium where plans for the Grassroots Leadership Academy of Development [GLAD] and Coach Licensing program will be unveiled. President Montagliani will also attend and provide some remarks with regard to the direction of CONCACAF.
- On Saturday, April 22nd the evening with conclude the weekend’s events with the BFA Awards Ceremony where the standout performers of the 2016-17 season will be honored. Individual awards, team acknowledgements, as well as the BFA Order of Merit awards will be presented. As the guest of honor for the evening, President Montagliani will bring forth remarks, as well as, recognition of the 50th anniversary of the BFA membership in CONCACAF.
BFA President Mark Wade said, “We are happy that President Montagliani has accepted the invitation to come to Bermuda. It is fitting that he will be with us as we celebrate 50 years of membership in CONCACAF. There are actually two 50s! This is also the fiftieth anniversary of our highest achievement in football at the senior level. 50 years ago Bermuda won the Silver medal at the Pan Am Games.”
