Social service agencies, parents and members of the public dedicated to improving the lives of Bermuda’s families are encouraged to attend the Annual General Meeting of the Inter Agency Committee for Children and Families [IAC] on April 5th at 9:30am, at Charities House Boardroom, 25 Point Finger Road, Paget.
The meeting aims to gather relevant stakeholders together to hear of the current activities of the Inter Agency Committee, and the current needs of children and families in Bermuda.
Presentations will include:
- An update on the National Children’s Agenda of Priorities
- Gangs: A Police Perspective –Superintendent, Darrin Simons
- Remarks by the Minister of Social Development and Sport, Nandi Outerbridge
Membership in the Inter Agency Committee for Children and Families consists of social service providers in the public and private sector, as well as concerned individuals.
This includes charities such as SCARS [Saving Children and Revealing Secrets], Family Centre, PRIDE Bermuda, Mirrors, the Coalition for the Protection of Children, the Department of Health, Salvation Army, the Adult Education Centre, CURB and many more.
“The IAC went through a strategic planning process in 2016 to determine how it can more effectively support its members and the children and families that it represents. This process resulted in a new mission and vision statement focused on greater collective advocacy, and a push for more just and fairer practices to support families,” the organisation said.
- Mission: “To collectively advocate for children and families and to provide best-practice training for agencies servicing them”
- Vision: “A just and equitable society where children and families thrive.”
“IAC agencies continue to struggle to meet the increased demand for services and we are seeing less funding, states Martha Dismont, Chair of the IAC. “We are also seeing inadequate resource capacity [human capital] to address the needs of struggling families, and a large gap in service provision for the 16-25 year old, particularly males”.
Nadine Lapsley-Dyer, Vice-Chair states, “This year IAC will focus on increasing our advocacy actions on behalf of at-risk families and children and offer trainings to meet the needs of agencies to ensure they operate at best practice and in turn provide quality services.”
The Annual Meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 5th at 9:30am at Charities House, 25 Point Finger Road, Paget. Please RSVP to iac@prevention.bm/232-1116, and for more information, please contact martha@tfc.prevention.bm or iacadministrator@prevention.bm.
