Updating: Court Appearances, Police Outside
[Updating] The next court appearances in relation to the protests at the House of Assembly on 2nd December 2016 are scheduled for this morning [May 1], and a police presence can be seen outside the Court, as people arrive, many wearing red, which the BTUC asked people to do for the march scheduled to be held at noon today to mark International Workers Day.
The people that have been charged with alleged offences include BIU President Chris Furbert, BPSU President Jason Hayward, Reverend Nicholas Tweed, BIU 1st Vice President Glen Simmons, Lilymay Bulford, Neville Goddard, Chris Furbert Jr, Anthony Burgess, Arnold Smith, Alafia Henry, and David Saltus, Sherman Hill, Antoine Minors, Ernest Trott and Dornielle Farrell.
The police previously said, ““The Bermuda Police Service [BPS] is aware that appeals are being made for the public to show support for the defendants and therefore, plans are in place to cater to large numbers of people attending on the days mentioned. The aim of our plan is to accommodate a peaceful gathering, should it occur, while ensuring the normal proceedings of the Courts and other functions in the building.”
