Court: 29-Year-Old Cruise Ship Visitor Fined

Appearing in Magistrates Court, a 29-year-old cruise ship visitor pleaded guilty to two offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act, and was fined $300 on each count.

Akeem Thompson, who the Court heard was from New York, was convicted of  possessing cocaine and MDMA.

The Magistrate was told that a cruise ship steward found a cellphone, and that on opening the case, aiming to describe the phone for lost and found purposes, the steward found two small packets of powder.

Ship security retained the phone and bags of powders and handed the matter to Bermuda Police.

Thompson was arrested, and the seized powders were analyzed by Police.
