Smith To Compete At World Championships
Tyrone Smith will be representing Bermuda at the IAAF World Athletics Championship being held in London from August 4th – August 13th.
BNAA President Donna Raynor said, “I will be travelling Saturday as I have to attend the two day IAAF World Congress which will be held August 1st – 3rd.
“There is only one election being held during the Congress which is for a position on the Race Walking Committee. There has been a new format put in place for this year’s Congress with one of the changes being with a number of sessions being offered with panels and speakers.
“I have been invited to sit on a panel with the topic being “Area Representation Around the World of Sport in 15 minutes”. I am looking forward to that. The topics to be discussed will be “area alignment so what aspects of the governance & integrity reforms do NACAC & MFs need to consider and take on board. How can the IAAF better support MFs and Areas”.
“I am sure that the Championships are going to be fantastic, as this will be the last Championships for Usain Bolt and Mo Farah. With the Championships being held in the same stadium as the 2012 Olympics, I have no doubt it is going to be fantastic.”
“My hope is that Tyrone can make it to the finals and that will give him a good chance of getting on the podium, but he will be up against the greatest Long Jumpers in the world so will have to jump his very best. Tyrone’s event takes place on the first day of the Championships August 4th at 7:30pm London time 3:30pm Bermuda time.”
