85-Year-Old Woman Dies On Flight To Bermuda

[Updated] An elderly passenger last night [Aug 14] died while traveling to Bermuda on an American Airlines aircraft, officials have confirmed.

The passenger, an 85-year-old woman, became ill on the flight from Miami to Bermuda and despite life saving efforts, the woman died as the flight arrived into the Island.

A Skyport Airport Duty Officer said: “Last night at 9:12pm, American Airlines informed Skyport of a medical emergency onboard the flight from Miami to Bermuda.

“An elderly woman had a medical issue and was being treated on the aircraft by a doctor. Emergency personal were called to the LF Wade International Airport, but unfortunately, the passenger died onboard at 9:57pm.

“She was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital with her son, who was travelling with her. Bermuda Skyport would like to wish condolences to the entire family of the passenger.”

The passenger was travelling with four family members.

Update 11.24am: A police spokesperson said, “Around 9:45pm Monday, August 14th police and first responders attended a reported medical emergency onboard a scheduled American Airlines flight from Miami to Bermuda at L.F. Wade International Airport.

“It appears that the incident involved an elderly local female passenger with a pre-existing medical condition.

“Emergency medical personnel tended to the passenger, believed to be an 85-year-old Pembroke woman at the scene. She was then rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, where sadly she was later pronounced dead.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and identification of the deceased is anticipated in due course pending next of kin notification.”
