Marvin Ford Lands Part In Sting Musical In UK
Bermudian singer Marvin Ford has landed a part in the “The Last Ship” musical, which features an original score with music and lyrics by Sting, and is set to premiere in March in the United Kingdom.
The “Last Ship” will premiere in Newcastle from 12 March – 7 April, before embarking on a tour of Britain and Ireland, with Mr Ford set to perform in the role of “Ferryman & Yard Worker.”
According to the musical’s website, “The UK premiere of Sting’s personal, political and passionate musical is an epic tale of community, hope and a great act of collective defiance. The Last Ship features an original score with music and lyrics by Sting.
“Gideon Fletcher, a sailor, returns home from sea to discover the ship-building life he left behind in chaos. The yard is closing and no one knows what will come next.
“With the engine fired and pistons in motion, picket lines are drawn as foreman Jackie and his wife Peggy fight to hold their community together in the face of the gathering storm.”
According to his website, “Marvin has been singing since he was five, when his Grandmother used to take him to church in his native Bermuda.
“Whilst in school his talents were noticed by the school’s music teacher and revered vocal coach on the island. From then on with the help his friend and coach, Marvin went on to sing for several hotel house bands and party bands around the island before branching out on his own as a solo vocalist.
“During his time in Bermuda he was also cast in several theatrical roles in well known Musicals such as The Full Monty, Ragtime and Jesus Christ Superstar.
“In 2012 Marvin moved to the UK with his family to pursue his musical and equestrian careers. When not singing or working on his music, Marvin is to be found riding and training his two Dressage horses.”
Mr. Ford was recently featured on Michael McIntyre’s Big Show on the BBC channel in the UK, with his outstanding singing performance earning rave reviews.
