Freisenbruch-Meyer Group To Host Tax Seminar

On Wednesday, June 6, 2018, Canada’s Trowbridge Professional Corporation and Freisenbruch Meyer Group will co-host two free seminars on tax and pension planning for expatriates.

The two-hour events, taking place at 12 noon and 5.30pm at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club in Hamilton, will feature a presentation by Mr. Arun [Ernie] Nagratha, CPA, CA, CPA [Illinois], who is a partner at Trowbridge; as well as local expert Carla Seely, the Vice President of Pension and Investments at Freisenbruch-Meyer Group.

The seminar will focus on the following topics:

  • Canadian residency for tax purposes
  • Canadian filing and reporting requirements
  • Tax planning for Canadian expats, either departing Canada or arriving in Canada
  • Ownership of property in Canada and the tax implications for Canadian non-residents
  • Tax implications for ownership of investments in Canada and abroad for Canadian nonresidents
  • Retirement planning for expats and Bermudians retiring in Canada
  • Pension portability and requirements

Directly following the seminar, there will be time for questions and answers about any other expatriate tax issues that participants may need assistance with.

Mr. Nagratha is a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant and a US Certified Public Accountant, who specialises in expatriate taxation as it relates to Canadians living and working around the world. He joined Trowbridge Professional Corporation shortly after its inception in 2002, to build the expatriate tax services practice. In addition to completing levels I and II of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants In-depth Taxation Programme, he is a current member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario.

Ms. Seely brings over 18 years of extensive experience in wealth management, pension management, investment advisory and retirement planning both in Bermuda and internationally. She holds various investment licenses through the Canadian Securities Institute [CSI] including; CSC, PFP, WME. In addition through the Financial Planning Standards Council [FPSC] she holds a level 2 certification under the Certified Financial Planner [CFP] programme. Ms. Seely also obtained her ACIS through Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment in the U.K.

According to Ms. Seely, the upcoming seminar will provide expatriates living in Bermuda with an excellent opportunity to gain a better understanding of issues relating to tax and what is required of Canadian citizens while living abroad.

She stated, “Arun and I will discuss a range of topics on June 6th, but I think participants will find the Q and A portion of the event most helpful when it comes to guiding their decision making process as it relates to tax planning, property ownership and retirement planning. It will be an in-depth and informative seminar and is free for the public to attend.”
