BIIRW: Chester’s Wickwire Takes A Firm Lead

May 4, 2018

According to Race Officer Somers Kempe, conditions out on the Great Sound were beautiful for the 5th day of Bermuda International Race Week.

The wind settled in at ENE direction and did not go as far right as anticipated. The first race saw the IODs racing in light winds of 6 – 9 kts and the second race saw perfect 9 – 11kts of breeze.

Peter Wickwire’s team from Chester, NS won both races which has put the team on top of both Series B and the Overall Series. John Corby, from the UK Daring Fleet is now in second place in Series B with Fisher’s Island in third.

In the Overall Series, where there are now two drops in play [2 worse scores over the whole series], has catapulted Wickwire out in front on 17 points, Peter Rugg/John Burnham from Fishers Island are on 24 and Bermuda’s Martin Siese is on 30 points.

All results are provisional and subject to inquiries and protests. The final two races of the Bacardi sponsored regatta are set to go ahead on Friday. The full results for overall can be found here.
