Court: Woman Admits Possessing Ammunition
Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [May 16], a 36-year-old woman from the United States pleaded guilty to carrying five rounds of ammunition in her bag, with the court hearing she was visiting the island on a cruise ship.
Julie Martin from Kentucky was charged with having in her possession five rounds of 9MM without holding a license.
Her lawyer told court that she works in the real estate field in Kentucky, and carries a gun for protection and had apparently forgotten that there was ammunition in her bag.
He added that she had won the trip on a cruise ship, with her lawyer telling the court that she was traveling with her husband, and the incident was a “complete accident” and that she has cooperated fully with police.
He noted that she missed the cruise ship when it departed, with the Magistrate responding that that was of her own making.
Ms Martin, a mother of two, spoke in Court, apologizing for being so “negligent”, and saying she hoped to be able to go home as her children needed her.
She was fined $800, which she must pay before leaving Bermuda.
