HSBC & TEDS Distributes Over 15,000 Meals
In partnership with The Eliza DoLittle Society [TEDS] and the Anglican Cathedral, HSBC’s workforce is working to eradicate hunger in Bermuda.
A spokesperson said, “From September 2017 through to February 2018, HSBC Bermuda launched its second annual bankwide, team-based volunteering initiative. 420 HSBC employees divided into 56 teams helped to cook, serve and distribute grocery items from The Eliza DoLittle’s Food Bank to members of the community between 9.00am and 12.00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays of each week.”

Clesia Pachai, Community Investment Manager, HSBC Bermuda, said, “With the support of 84% of our colleagues, HSBC Bermuda distributed over 15,000 meals over the programme’s 5-6 month duration and contributed 1,260 volunteer hours.
“Although we believe the Bank has made an important contribution to our community working with The Eliza DoLittle Society, it is evident that members of our community continue to face hardships and rely on these services which was clearly demonstrated through the increase of programme participants over the past year.
“This is a strong indicator that there is still more work to be done to further address the ever-growing issue of food insecurity in Bermuda. HSBC continues to be optimistic that through ongoing and collaborative efforts such as this, we will be able to gradually help strengthen our island’s societal health.”
Jennifer Mahoney, Executive Director, The Eliza DoLittle Society, said, “At the end of the 2016/2017 programme, I described the HSBC team as enthusiastic, empathic, and praised them for going the extra mile. Everyone exhibited dedication and a genuine willingness to make a positive difference in our community and I never expected them to exceed those already high standards, but they have.”
“This year’s programme provided the team with the opportunity to not only cook and serve the meals their team mates prepared, but additionally spend time in our Food Bank. This enabled the team to appreciate first-hand that food insecurity touches a broad cross section of the community.
“It is a humbling experience when you find yourself face to face with old school mates, ex co-workers and family members reaching out for assistance. It becomes real for people at this point.
“Outside the required scope of the programme, we saw employees volunteer during their personal vacation periods, organize departmental food drives, and make personal donations.”
HSBC Bermuda Teamwork at its best
“Relationships like the one that we have with HSBC are rare, and a great example of what can be achieved when a true sense of partnership exists. They are more than just partners, they have become an extended family to our organization and our clients.”
“Breakfast is available to the community at the Cathedral of Most Holy Trinity on Mondays and Thursdays from 10.00am to 11.00am. For a list of the various feeding centres, please contact the TEDS office at 333-4483 or by emailing teds.director@gmail.com.”
