Bermuda Day Marathon Seeking Volunteers

May 9, 2018

Volunteers help to make the Bermuda Day Half Marathon Derby the amazing community event that it has become, the organisers said, adding that the Bermuda Day Half Marathon Derby committee is searching for volunteers to help with the lead up to the race, as well as on race day.

There are two ways that volunteers can get involved with helping to manage this year’s race, which include volunteer roles at number pick-up and on race day.

Bag and number pick-up will take place on Monday, May 21 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the National Sports Centre North Cricket Pavilion, but volunteers are needed throughout the day.

Organizers said, “Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in two hour time slots to organize, prepare and store the goody bags that are distributed to all participants. During bag pick up, volunteers will also be needed to distribute bib numbers, goody bags and t-shirts. Volunteers are needed, in particular from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. as well as for clean-up after the pick up has closed on the day.

“On race day, Friday, May 25, volunteers are an integral part of making sure the race runs smoothly. Day of volunteer roles include:

  • Helping calm the chaos at the finish line by providing a specific service to each participant after they complete their 13.1-mile journey.
  • Distribution of medals to each runner as they pass through the finish shoot.
  • Water table shoot and Beverage table assistants
  • Helping at the Personal Items Tent to organize bags, which will be transported on the runner’s behalf from the start line in Somerset to Bernard’s Park.

All race day roles will take place at the finish line at Bernard’s Park.

The volunteer opportunities are fast paced, which require attention to detail, but are integral to making this another great race year.
