Court: Man Fined For Stealing Chocolate & Tea
A 52-year-old man has been fined $300 for stealing a chocolate bar and box of tea worth approximately $10 from a supermarket.
John Pereira put the two items in his pockets before going to the cashier and paying for a loaf of bread on April 21.
He was stopped by the manager of the Sandys Marketplace as he tried to leave the store.
Pereira, 52, immediately admitted the offence and offered to pay for the items.
However he was arrested and charged with theft and later claimed he had forgotten he had placed the stolen items in his pocket.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo imposed a $300 fine this morning at court.
