July 23, 2018

Former Bermuda prison officer Vernon Clarke is having a retrospective exhibition at the Bermuda Society of Arts which is on until Tuesday, July 24th.

Otto Trott explained, “Vernon Clarke is a former Bermuda prison officer who studied art in England. He was in the British military before he came to Bermuda. He is having a retrospective exhibition at the Bermuda Society of Arts which is on until July 24th.

“This video was filmed at his opening which was on June 29th. Vernon has been a regular exhibitor at art exhibitions in Bermuda for over 30 years and this exhibition shows many works from his artistic career. Some highlights are portraits of Wendell ‘Shine’ Hayward, musician; Chesley Trott, sculptor; Randolph Furbert, bee keeper and Rev. Thomas Nisbett.

“He also has some self portraits, portraits of his family which includes one of his brother-in-law, Dr Clifford Maxwell, former principal of the Berkeley Institute. Vernon has also done some landscapes and a series of paintings based on his career as a prison officer. There was a large turn out for this show and the end of the video shows him with family and friends.”
