BPS Confirm Death Of 48-Year-Old Arthur Wales

[Updated] The police have confirmed the death of 48-year-old Arthur Wales following a collision in St. George’s last night, and also confirmed that the 62-year-old truck driver “has been arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and subsequently released on police bail.”

A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 48-year-old Mr. Arthur Wales and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends.

“Mr. Wales was seriously injured when the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a truck on Cut Road in St. George’s at 6:53pm Saturday, November 3rd.

“Despite lifesaving efforts by emergency medical technicians at the scene which continued as he was rushed to hospital via ambulance, Mr. Wales was later pronounced dead.

“A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist the deceased’s loved ones at this difficult time.

“The driver of the truck, said to be a 62-year-old St. George’s man, was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and subsequently released on police bail pending further inquiries.

“The investigation regarding this fatal collision – the eleventh of the year – continues and any witnesses that have not already come forward are encouraged to contact Constable Terry Thompson of the Roads Policing Unit on 717-2393 or via his e-mail tthompson@bps.bm at the earliest opportunity.”

Update November 5, 10.12am: Minister of Tourism and Transport Zane DeSilva said, “Over this past weekend we have suffered yet another tragic death on our roads. I wish to extend my deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Arthur Wales during this difficult time.”

“The Ministry of Tourism and Transport remains deeply committed to road safety in Bermuda and urges motorists to drive with caution.”
