Video: Police On Murder Of Ronniko Burchall

[Updated] The police are holding a press conference this afternoon [Dec 30] on the shooting of a 30-year-old man in St David’s. We will have additional information later on, and in the meantime the live video is below.

Update 5.09pm: The police have confirmed the shooting victim, 30-year old Ronniko Burchall, has died.

The police also said “as of 4.20pm today, a 31-year-old man has been taken into police custody in connection with this murder investigation.”

Update 5.30pm: Acting Inspector of the Serious Crime Unit Jason Smith said, “On Friday 28 December 2019, St David’s Cricket Club held their annual Christmas party for their members and supporters at the Clubhouse in St David’s.

“About 1:40am Saturday morning 29th December while patrons were socializing and enjoying the festivities, a male brandishing a firearm shot 30-year-old Ronniko Rodney Burchall multiple times as he stood outside of the cricket club. The suspect left on foot and it is believed that he ran towards the general area of Cashew City of St. David’s.

“First aid measures were commenced on the victim at the scene and an ambulance attended and transported Mr. Burchall to King Edward Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead at 4pm Sunday.

“An investigation has commenced under the leadership of myself, Acting Inspector Jason Smith and a team of experienced investigators from the Serious Crime Unit.

“As of a 4:20pm today a 31-year-old man has been taken into police custody in connection with this murder investigation.

“To date, a number of patrons who were at the establishment that morning have been interviewed, however, officers would like to speak with any persons who were at the club during the incident.

“We are equally interested in communicating with individuals who may have seen or heard anyone acting suspiciously in the Cashew City area. There is also specific interest in a car that drove along Cashew City Road immediately after the incident.

“The Bermuda Police Service remains committed to the victims of crime and their families, and we will continue to pursue & bring to justice, all of those persons who challenge peace and order in our communities.

“In recent weeks, three firearms have been recovered by police and one person remains in custody with another on bail as investigations continue.
