Video: ‘Taking Off’ Highlights New Terminal Roof
Skyport has released the latest episode of ‘Taking Off’, a video series with host Mikaela Pearman that highlights the airport redevelopment project, with this episode highlighting the roof of the new passenger terminal building.
Speaking in the episode, Mikaela Pearman said, “A major part of the new passenger terminal building at the LF Wade International Airport has been completed – the roof!
“We celebrated with a traditional Bermudian roof wetting ceremony, pouring [and sipping for some] Gosling’s Black Seal Rum to mark the occasion.
“Leaders from the Government, Skyport, Aecon, the Airport Authority and the Canadian Commercial Corporation all attended, joining our skilled tradesmen who work on the site, to celebrate the milestone.
“The roof itself is spectacular. It is more than two hundred thousand square feet and made from thermoplastic polyolefin, which meets Bermuda’s health code standards for roofing material.
“And it will catch rain water as well. No, it’s not a traditional Bermuda roof, but it was built with that same unique, sustainability feature in mind, as it slopes to a large collection gutter running along the central spine of the building.
“In addition to finalizing construction of the roof, the entire building is now 50 percent complete, so things are moving quickly!
“The new passenger terminal building is due for completion in the summer of 2020 and I’ll be sure to come back soon with more updates.”

can you please build a dock for boats to pick up and drop off at the airport? Mindblowing that you got water access but no dock. come on peoples.
A big oversight when the OBA made their plans. The temporary dock was used heavily the few weeks it was there. There is a dock on the Castle Harbour side near the dump, it was used occasionally before getting wrecked by hurricanes. Of course access is limited to smaller boats that can pass under the bridge.
Even bigger oversight they didn’t think of doing anything with the causeway either.
I thought a dock was in the plan?
With that new location, is it even feasible with the water pretty shallow there? Or would you have to provide a shuttle service to a dock on the Castle Harbour side…

Same thought, with the amount of roof, could probably produce enough to power the entire building and have excess to sell.
Wonder if panels there could be a safety hazard with reflected light?
