Police Confirm Death Of 74-Year-Old Woman
[Updated] Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service [BFRS] personnel responded to a residential structural fire in Smiths today [Jan 10] which resulted in a woman being transported to King Edward Memorial Hospital.
BFRS Staff Officer Sergeant Allan Wilkinson said, “Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service received a call via 911 at 5:04pm reporting a structural fire at 23 Verdmont Valley Drive.
“Upon arrival firefighters noticed an unresponsive female who had been removed from the apartment. Medics and firefighters attended to the female who was transported to King Edward Memorial Hospital by ambulance. Fire personnel also ventilated the heavily smoke logged apartment. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.”
Update 9.00pm: A police spokesperson said, “Sadly, an unresponsive 74 year old woman rushed from the scene of a Verdmont Valley Drive, Smiths parish house fire via ambulance earlier this evening [January 10th] was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
“No further information regarding the deceased will be provided at this time, pending notification of next of kin.
“An investigation regarding the circumstances of this sudden death as well as the cause of the fire is underway by the Bermuda Police Service and the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service.”
