Photos: Canadian Swim Teams In Bermuda
The coaches of two Canadian swim teams – in Bermuda for winter training before national World Championship trials – both say they have been delighted with facilities at the National Sports Centre.
The Toronto Swim Club, which is based at the University of Toronto, and the Oakville Aquatic Club were in Bermuda last week training at the NSC pool and are the latest in a series of overseas swim teams which have chosen the Island for warm weather training.
Bill O’Toole, Head Coach of the Toronto Club, said: “The trials for junior and senior World Championship teams, as well as the PanAm team, are in April so we wanted a change of scene and a chance to do some fun training. We loved it. The facilities have been great and the staff have been fantastic.”
The Head Coach of the Oakville Club, Sean Baker, said he used the training to help get swimmers towards peak condition before the trials. “It was my first time in Bermuda and it has been fantastic with excellent facilities,” he added.
Amy Fox, the NSC’s Aquatics & Fitness Manager, said: “In partnership with the Bermuda Tourism Authority, we’ve been really lucky to host some great teams and this was no different. It was fantastic seeing the pool so busy and everyone at the NSC wishes all the athletes the best of luck in their trials.”
