BSSF Senior School Badminton Tournament
The 2019 Bermuda School Sports Federation’s Senior School Badminton Tournament was held at Somersfield Academy.
James Luckhum from Warwick Academy defeated Somersfield Academy’s Matthew Elliott 2 – 1 in an exciting final Under 16 Final. Elliot won the first set 11-9, before Luckham stormed back to win the next two sets 11-2 and 11-6. Luckhum defeated Caleb McDowell from Saltus 11-7 in the Quarter-Final before defeating schoolmate Benjamin Darling 11-7 in their Semi-Final. Elliott defeated Owen Botelho from MSA 11-3 in the Quarters and then Warwick’s Finn Mosely in their Semi-Final.
Luckhum and Mosely teamed up to win the Doubles Final in straight sets over the Saltus pair of Kian Mooney and Alex Southern. The Warwick duo defeated the other Warwick pair of Darling and Benjamin Floyd 15-6. Mooney and Southern defeated the MSA pair of Jacob Hadder and Owen Botelho 15-10 in the other Semi-Final.
Aaron Simmons, from Bermuda Christian Academy, defended his Over 16 Singles Title after defeating Scott Redmond from Warwick Academy in straight games 11-3, 11-4. Simmons defeated Tyler Hurdle from Saltus 11-4 in the Quarter-Finals and Saltus’ Cameron Coffey in the Semi-Final. Redmond defeated Spencer Young of Saltus 11-3 in the Quarter-Finals before defeating Ryan Lopes from MSA in the Semi-Final.
Lopes teamed up with Blake Horseman to win the Doubles over Simmons and Somersfield player Ethan Etemadi, 11-8, 8-11, 11-6. Lopes and Horseman beat Coffey and Connor Somerville in their Semi-Final while Simmons and Etemadi defeated Hurdle and Young from Saltus.
