Green Family Donate $10,000 To Salvation Army

May 29, 2019

The Green family have donated $10,000 to The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal.

The Red Shield Appeal is The Salvation Army’s annual global fundraising drive, with all money raised locally going towards local programmes. The Green family’s donation will support the Salvation Army’s numerous programmes which support Bermudians in need.

The Salvation Army is perhaps best known in Bermuda for its food programmes which feeds approximately 125 people a day, both at their church on North Street in Hamilton and the Street Ministry mobile feeding programme.

They supplement this with their three food banks across the island which help hundreds of families supplement food shortages. They also provide housing for those in crisis with their 35-bed shelter.

The Salvation Army offers a wider range of support to the public than many realise though, with initiatives such as the Harbour Light Program, a 10-bed residential program that facilitates addiction recovery in a holistic environment and continues to provide supportive services for individuals upon completion of the program through the Life Skills Programme. During times of emergency, such as hurricanes, The Salvation Army operates a team of emergency responders, supplying food and emotional support.

Alexander Green said: “The Salvation Army does an incredible job of supporting those in need in Bermuda and we are pleased to be able to support them in their mission. We hope that the public will rally around their cause and help them to continue all the good works that they do.”

Major Sandra Stokes, Divisional Leader of The Salvation Army in Bermuda, said: “We are so grateful to the Green family for their continuing support of The Salvation Army. Since fundraising is off to a slow start this year, this donation will make a real difference.”
