Masterworks Museum To Host Double Opening
Under the distinguished patronage of Governor John Rankin and U.S. Consul General Constance Dierman, Masterworks Museum will present a double opening of the Museum and Rick Faries Gallery on Wednesday May 1st, 5:30-7pm.
The Museum opens with the exhibition entitled, “Pairings & Partners: Bermuda and Other Tales” and the Rick Faries Gallery with accomplished visiting American artist, Jason Bereswill and his show entitled, “Rocks.”
“Pairings & Partners: Bermuda and Other Tales” explores relationships between different artworks both from within the Masterworks collection and some notable and generously loaned works. The stories and connections between these works, shown paired together, some for the very first time, allow visitors to experience and perhaps interpret these artworks in a new light.
“Hotly anticipated due to Bereswill’s reputation as a talented painter, Jason Bereswill’s “Rocks” presented a serendipitous show to combine with that in the main museum,” Masterworks said.
Jason joins an impressive lineage of artists, Winslow Homer, Andrew Wyeth, Ogden Pleissner, Georgia O’Keeffe to name a few, who have been inspired by Bermuda’s beauty. Bereswill’s work always begins outdoors, kneeling in the sand he captures the essence of a scene.
“These smaller paintings are then brought into his studio, along with copious photographic reference to begin merging details of colour, light, form and texture onto large scale canvases.
“One of Bereswill’s early influences was the photorealistic work of artist Malcolm Morley. There are two Morley paintings paired for the exhibition and one is the first photorealistic painting ever created and with a Bermudian subject matter. The second work, “Crusade 2000″ is one of Morley’s last Bermuda pieces.
“Masterworks is delighted to partner with Jason and look forward to welcoming all for this exciting double opening, Wednesday, May 1st, 5:30-7:00pm.
