Canada To Offer Biometrics Collection On Island
From July 9 – 11, the Consulate General of Canada will have a team in Bermuda providing biometrics collection so Bermuda residents who have already applied either online or by mail for a visa, work or study permit, or permanent residence, can have their biometrics collected in Bermuda and avoid travelling overseas, Minister of National Security Wayne Caines said.
Minister Caines said, “The public will be aware, that specific identification criteria is now mandatory for some individuals applying for a Canadian visitor visa, work or study permit or permanent residency in Canada. This is mandatory for all foreign students, inclusive of Bermudian students.
“The Bermuda Government has been in discussions with the Canadian Consulate to address the issue of Bermudians having to travel to the US to provide their Biometric data. Among other options, we have been advocating for a Canadian team to come to Bermuda and collect the Biometric data.
“Well Bermuda, we are here today to share some great news! From July 9 to the 11, The Consulate General of Canada, will have a team in Bermuda providing biometrics collection.
“This means that Bermuda residents who have already applied either online, or by mail for a visa, work or study permit, or permanent residence, can have their biometrics collected in Bermuda and avoid the expense of travelling overseas.
“To residents who have not already applied, for their visa, work or study permit, or permanent residence, due to the time required to complete the application process, it is unlikely you will be able to complete the process in time to provide your biometrics data on the aforementioned dates. However, you are encouraged to complete the process as soon as possible.
“Applicants that have completed the online application process must bring their Biometrics Instruction Letter [BIL] provided by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC] with them, as well as a valid passport in order to submit their biometrics. The BIL is proof that the applicant has already submitted a complete application to an IRCC office and paid the biometric fee.
“Applicants who cannot make it on these dates may have to incur the cost of travelling overseas to the nearest visa application centre [VAC] or a United States [U.S.] Application Support Center [ASC].
“Please note that the biometrics collection will be done by appointment only. To schedule your appointment, you must submit your email to CNGNYConsular@international.gc.ca.
“The hours of operation will be between 9:00 am – 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm at the Department of Immigration, 1st Floor Government Administration Building, 30 Parliament Street, Hamilton.
“In light of this announcement, I offer my sincere thanks to the Consulate General of Canada for providing this service to the people of Bermuda. I suggest all applicants who have the necessary documents in hand to take advantage of this opportunity.
“This is for a limited time only, so act now. Thank you.”
It needs to be a proper Canadian Consulate in Bermuda, just like the US Consulate. For the amount of Canadians in Bermuda and the amount of Bermudian students that go to school in Canada, it just makes proper sense!
Get on with it Canada and Bermuda!
Entitlement.

You’re the one who is too cheap to get proper travel documents.
What ‘biometric’ info is gathered exactly, shouldn’t we require the same for Canadians coming here?
Why do you care? You thinking of studying in Canada?
We need permanent bio matiric system to Bermuda lot of Bermudian students and overseas people live in Bermuda if open Canadian embassy in Bermuda is really useful for Canadian and Bermudian overseas worker
“… shouldn’t we require the same for Canadians coming here?”
Yes…the PLP should send a representative, at Bermudas expense, to Canada to collect biometric data from any Canadians who wish to be abused by ‘real’ bermudians.
Yes, why don’t we collect biometrics in BDA?
