Ethiopian Orthodox Church To Celebrate Timqet

January 17, 2020

The Ethiopian Orthodox Church is inviting the public to join them for their celebration of the Feast of the Epiphany – or Timqet – on Sunday [Jan 19] at 8.00am.

A spokesperson said, “We invite you to join us for another major holy day celebration of the Feast of the Epiphany or Timqet, recounting the baptism of our Lord Jesus Christ in the River Jordan.

“The clergy and faithful gather around a fresh water pool to pray. The priest prays while dipping the Holy Cross into the water, asking for the blessings of Jesus Christ’s baptism to be renewed in our lives.

“Immediately after the blessing, he showers the crowd with water; not as baptism, but as a renewal of baptismal vows.

“A warm welcome awaits you. Followed by our traditional feast after service.”
