BTA “Great Bermuda Takeout Day” On April 2
The Bermuda Tourism Authority [BTA] is promoting the “Great Bermuda Takeout Day” on April 2 [Thursday] aiming to encourage residents to take advantage of “innovative business models such as home, takeout and kerbside deliveries.”
A spokesperson said, “Bermuda’s beloved eateries have long filled a need for residents and visitors alike, with menus boasting culinary favourites from peas ’n’ rice and pizza to fishcakes on raisin rolls. Now they need our help.
“Bermuda Tourism Authority [BTA] is rallying support for local restaurants and their employees who are raising the industry bar during Covid-19 via innovative business models such as home, takeout and kerbside deliveries.
“Next Thursday, April 2, the BTA is promoting “The Great Bermuda Takeout Day” to encourage residents to take advantage of those options by ordering takeout or delivery.
“Bermuda is well known for its boasty food culture and genuine hospitality that set the island apart,” said BTA Chief Sales & Marketing Officer Victoria Isley. “So, we’re proud to invite everyone to join this effort by contacting restaurants island-wide to order breakfast, lunch or dinner—or all three! We hope this helps boost dollars and morale for our valued restaurant stakeholders.”
“The Great Bermuda Takeout Day initiative is part of several being developed by the BTA’s internal Covid-19 Stakeholder Taskforce, made up of team members of its New York and Bermuda offices,” the BTA added.
“Earlier this week, the BTA launched a dedicated page on GoToBermuda.com promoting more than 150 operational businesses, including a host of nearly 60 local food and beverage outlets that are showing innovation to reach customers amid social-distancing restrictions. Restaurants can join the listing by completing a brief online form on the site.
“Covid-19 has hit our industry hard with closure of all our sit-in spaces,” said Phil Barnett, a BTA Director and representative of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce Restaurant Division.
“We are doing everything in our power to keep as many of our team members employed and working—but we need the community’s support more than ever. So, savour some sushi. Hurry for a curry. Bite into a burger. Our industry appreciates it!”
The BTA added, “To participate in “The Great Bermuda Takeout Day” April 2, residents are encouraged to go online or call restaurants to order meals for takeout or delivery. You can also like or share BTA’s social posts on #GreatBermudaTakeoutDay and share your own culinary adventures that day.
“Be sure to get your evening orders in early to comply with any government public-health curfew restrictions or guidelines in effect April 2.”

So are we suppose to stay home or go pick up take out? The curfew makes no sense, nothing is open at night so no one is out anyway. But the line for carryout in the day where people are on top of each other, sure will help spread the virus.
They are allowing you outfor 1 day just to get your take out
You’d be surprised the amount of people that are out at night
The curfew is initially only for three nights – Sunday, Monday Tuesday. April 2nd is Thursday.
Okay, so how is this supposed to be a good idea? I get the idea of supporting local restaurants and keeping people in their jobs, but even though the food may be delivered through contact-less delivery, there is still a possibility that someone preparing/ handling the food at the restaurant MAY have the virus, in which case, he or she would be infecting potentially dozens of customers, and we might see the number of cases rise dramatically after April 2.
What a waste of money? Most are unemployed and you dumb @?? Are wasting are tax money telling people to eat out . Close b t a
And and tell people eat and cook home save our resources for things to come .
I swear some people on this island have a hard time thinking of anyone but themselves… the purpose ofbthis you rocket scientest is to support local businesses to keep them alive… but u keep spouting ur ignorance
Ordering takeout is supporting the jobs in the restaurant business. Seems like a good way to keep those working in that business employed for as long as possible.
Lovely idea – but with the 8pm curfew orders will have to be in early! Mine will be – at the Swizzle! Let’s all support this!
Ok so premier is imposing a curfew and saying stay at home and BTA is saying takeout at curb side is to be magnified? So which one is it?
Perhaps the takeout or delivery could be done during the day, and all finished well before 8.00pm.
Just a wild guess.
Anything to make money.
BTA go away.
Cook for relatives and have em come over to the curb or take it to them.
The Great bermuda take out….lol….what’s so great about taking out right now. I see where we can save money it’s with the not so great bta. What is great about going out when we are supposed to be staying in
In-it – cheesh
What is the purpose behind the curfew?
Shut the BTA down for time being this is stupider than stupidee doo dah
Why encourage people to come out for takeout when we are told to stay home?
Are you the same person as “Liz” below, who has posted the exact same sentence, but with some additional words in the middle?
Why encourage people to come out for takeout and possibly spread the virus when we are told to stay home??
BTA is obviously desperate. First, they were encouraging people to visit Bermuda during this pandemic. Now, they are encouraging the local population to go out for takeout, while the Gvt is telling people to stay home.
They are trying to justify their high salaries and the result is crazy ideas.
Shut down the BTA, place the staff on leave. These nonsensical ideas cause more harm than good.
It was actually government ministers, like Zane, pulling stunts, having his photo taken on cruise ships, encouraging visits when all knew it was a risk.
I wonder why the BTA bothers trying to keep Bermudians employed. Most are completely unappreciative of the effort.
Yes, BTA is not necessary now.
Why are we paying the BTA for this foolishness? Does anyone there know anything about marketing?
The BTA should be laid off now as no tourists by ship or plane are comming in. What a waste of taxpayers monies. Employ them back when we have service to Bermuda!
