September 25, 2020

“A signature dinner staged atop the panoramic ramparts of Fort St Catherine proved a successful highlight of this week’s Alfresco Dining Festival and underscored Bermuda’s ability to stage events in line with current health and safety protocols,” the BTA said,

“‘Dinner in White,’ hosted by the Bermuda Tourism Authority, welcomed 64 guests who purchased either ‘pod’ tables of eight family and friends seated together, or tables for two,” the BTA said.

“This ensured familiarity at each table and complemented stringent protocols: a COVID-19 health-screening survey completed in advance, face coverings when not seated, and open-air, socially-distanced dining at the spectacular East End setting. With staff factored into the total, the event space was managed under the island’s current 75-person mass-gathering limit.”

“It was rewarding to see Bermudian event planners, caterers and entertainers getting back to what they do best and I’m delighted with the feedback from attendees and the content I’m seeing on social media,” said BTA Interim CEO Glenn Jones.
“Importantly, we hope this Bermuda Alfresco Dining Festival event demonstrates to our industry that it’s safe to host public events if done responsibly. Our team is committed to upholding Bermuda’s excellent record on pandemic management.”

The BTA added, “The dinner showcased local talent, mostly from St. George’s, including catering by Tempest Bistro, experience design by Just Dreams Events, entertainment by Jesse Seymour and Silver City Band, with a special appearance by H & H Gombeys. Burrows Lightbourn and Bermuda Cedar Security also partnered with the BTA.

“Some three-dozen local restaurants are participating in the 10-day Alfresco Dining Festival [September 17–26], which continues through tomorrow, closing with an all-day celebration at the Royal Naval Dockyard. Saturday’s West-End finale includes entertainment and food and drinks throughout the historic venue.

“Participating venues accepting reservations include: Anchor, Bonefish Bar & Grill, Frog & Onion Pub, and Snorkel Park. An outdoor movie will close the night in the Victualling Yard, screened at 9:15 pm by Media Lounge; movie-goers should bring their own lawn chair. Visitors can grab a blanket and pillow from the Dockyard Visitor Services Centre which will remain open until the end of the movie.

“The festival, conceived to put the spotlight on Bermuda’s abundance of open-air food establishments deep into the fall season, is part of the BTA’s inside-out marketing plan—designed to stimulate spending from residents while demonstrating the island’s myriad experiences to visitors.”
