Photos & Video: Bermuda College Graduation
[Updated with photos + video] 107 Bermuda College graduates will receive associate degrees, diplomas, or certificates today, with a drive by ceremony set to take place at the College in lieu of the traditional graduation ceremony.
A spokesperson said, “107 Bermuda College graduates will receive associate degrees, diplomas or certificates, on Thursday, May 28, culminating an unprecedented academic year of challenge as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Notwithstanding the challenges, 53% of the Class of 2020 graduated with honours, earning either merit [GPA 3.0 – 3.49] or distinction [GPA 3.5 – 4.0] status.

“Mr. Shane Rogers, graduate of the Associate of Applied Science [Hospitality Management] programme is the Class of 2020 Graduate Speaker. His address will be carried on the College’s website and social media pages [Facebook and Instagram] on Thursday.
“The Associate of Arts [Business Administration] programme has produced 32 graduates, the largest group in this year’s graduating class. 17 graduates are dual enrolment students who will be awarded associate degrees, diplomas or certificates prior to receiving their high school certificates next month.
“11 nursing students were unable to complete their degrees because the clinical component of their graduation requirements could not be completed as a result of the pandemic. It is hoped that this final portion will be completed in the Fall.”
College President, Dr. Duranda Greene saluted the courage of students and the dedication of faculty and support staff in bringing the academic year to a successful end, despite the challenges, saying: “I want to celebrate the tenacity with which our students embraced this unprecedented challenge; the fortitude it took for them to soldier on in a new learning environment; and the spirit with which they fought to reach the end of this part of their journey. Similarly, BC faculty and staff are also champions of our students’ success and today I salute and commend everyone!”
The College said, “In lieu of the traditional graduation ceremony, this year students will collect their degrees, diplomas and certificates, caps and gowns, and a personalised letter from College President, Dr. Duranda Greene in an organised drive by the College gymnasium beginning at 10:30, Thursday morning.

“In addition, a BC Commencement page will be available on the website and on the College’s social media platforms, featuring congratulatory messages from the Premier, the Hon. David A Burt; Minister of Education, the Hon. Diallo Rabain; BC Board Chairman, Mr. Peter Sousa; Dr. Greene; Dr. Curtis-Tweed, VP Academic & Student Affairs and Class of 2020 Student Speaker, Mr. Rogers. And a roll call of graduates’ names by the respective Deans of the Division of Arts & Science and the Dean of the Division of Business, Hospitality & Technical Education.”

This is great news but NO JOBS so what will these newly graduated kids do to earn a living? I guess they leave Bermuda once flights are back on?

Always good to see this. I completed a degree in 2010 and again in 2012. I wish every Bermuda College graduate continued success despite the challenges that Bermuda and the world will be facing. I know that Bermuda College has given you the tools to succeed. Congratulations to each of you! Well done!
