‘Be Fitted With Quarantine Monitoring Bracelet’

August 23, 2020

“To support the enforcement of quarantine, all passengers who arrive without a pre-test and are subject to the mandatory 8 day quarantine will be fitted with a quarantine monitoring bracelet that will be connected to their smartphone,” Minister of Health Kim Wilson said.

Speaking at Thursday’s [Aug 20] press briefing, Minister Wilson said, “Additionally, this week we activated the mandatory uploading of a pre-departure test for visitors during the Travel Authorization process.

“This should provide an added layer of safety for travellers, and will further ensure compliance regarding the requirement for all visitors to Bermuda to have a pre-departure test before travelling to Bermuda. The exception to this requirement are those aged nine or younger, who must upload a government photo ID with proof of their age in place of the pre-departure test.

“Finally, in light of this week’s imported cases, I would like to encourage all businesses and public-facing establishments to reacquaint themselves with the guidance for each of their sectors, which can be found at coronavirus.gov.bm

“Likewise, the general public is advised to ramp up preventive measures: wash hands frequently, wear masks diligently when mixing with other households, avoid large groups and keep six feet away from others if unmasked.

“Remember a simple rule: Avoid the 3 C’s: Closed spaces, Crowded Places and Close-contact settings.”

  1. Question says:

The picture is an insult. Burt deliberated blurs lines between Covid announcements and electioneering.

    • yOUR INSULTS ARE MEANINGLESS AT THIS TIME. get ready!!
An election is on the bright horizon!!

      • Ringmaster says:

What’s the big deal? If the PLP win all the seats what difference will it make from the present number? There still won’t be an increase in the overall IQ and choices for Ministers will be very limited. More likely the PLP will lose a few seats, then what does it say?

        • Truth says:

The only people that need to be concerned with a overall IQ or some form of intellect is the oba/UBPer voters.

With JETGATE CRAIG returning as your leader after being booted out reveals to the swing voters how desperate you have become.

Half of you already know your going to lose and the other half is thinking how the FOX TAIL do we get out of here.

          • Anbu says:

Ooooohhh look, a plp voter that actually spelled lose right. Go figure. Maybe u lot do have some hope lol.

            • Ringmaster says:

Unlikely as the person doesn’t know it should be “you’re”.

        • wahoo says:

Thing is that this election is not about the OBA it is about getting the base to vote them in for 5 more years. On October 2nd the plp will have to tell the unions and the people collecting unemployment benefits a very hard truth. It might also be the perfect opportunity to give Zane and Wayne back their portfolios? They might even drop the SSM appeal on October 3 and save money there.

For sure our plp gov will win and I am kinda thinking that the OBA will be glad they lost. The only loser will be Bermuda in general.

  2. sage says:

What if they don’t own a smartphone?

    • Dirk Gentley says:

Perhaps get a Covid pre-test before arrival?

      • Simple says:

It’s very difficult being a Bermudian to get a test while away without being a resident of the State you’re in. So people are not willingly not get pre-tested, it’s just the resources are very limited to the point of non existence for Bermudians abroad. It’s very unfair for the government to slap house arrest bracelets on Bermudians as a punishment for not finding a place to pre-test as the government knows how difficult it is to find somewhere to get it done while in the States. I understanding slapping one on someone that is not abiding at all, but come on this is preposterous.

    • Toodle-oo says:

We’ve become a place where anyone who can’t provide a cell phone number or e-mail address (or heaven forbid , a Facebook account ) is looked on as some sort of leper .
There are still a number of people around who either can’t afford such things or like to keep their lives simple .
And despite DG’s inference (above) the case of the tourist who went all over the place but didn’t test poz until the 3rd test is a demonstration of the significance of the monitoring bracelets , especially in light of all of the stories about people not honouring their quarantine and I’m sure they all owned smart devices.

  3. This again says:

Oh the bracelets that they’ve been talking about since they first opened the border. They’re finally going to start using them?

  4. Meh says:

So residents without pre-test get 8 day quarantine with a monitoring bracelet; whereas visitors are free to roam as soon as their arrival test is negative? Makes no sense. If the arrival and day 4 tests are proving ineffective we need to tighten things up across the board not just returning residents.

  5. Tyrany written all over this! says:

Let’s all just move to China cause that’s what we’re becoming. Anybody tries to fit me with a bracelet I’ll lose it

    • Knolly says:

Simple…get a pre-test or if you can’t or aren’t sure if you can…stay your ass in Bermuda!
