Car & Bike Collision On Swing Bridge

A collision involving a car and an auxiliary cycle occurred on the Swing Bridge in St. Georges this weekend, with both drivers “subsequently charged on suspicion of driving whilst impaired.”

A police spokesperson said, “Shortly before midnight on Saturday, 22nd August, Police Operations received a report of a collision involving a car and an auxiliary cycle on the Swing Bridge in St. Georges.

“The car driven by a 30-year-old male, was at the time reportedly leaving St. Georges when the cycle, ridden by an 18-year-old male and headed in the opposite direction, crossed lanes and the two vehicles collided.

“The cycle rider sustained foot and leg injuries as well as a suspected head injury as his helmet came off in the collision. He was transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. His injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

“The driver of the car was unhurt.

“Both men were subsequently charged on suspicion of driving whilst impaired.

“The incident resulted in the swing bridge being closed to vehicular traffic for a period of time as a Traffic Collision Investigator and officers from the Forensic Support Unit processed the scene.
