PLP Issue Another Statement On Debate

September 19, 2020

The PLP says that it will “accept offers for a national leaders’ debate between leaders of political parties that are capable of forming government after the October 1 election” and reiterated their stipulation that it “must be distributed on television, radio and the internet.”

A spokesperson said, “The Progressive Labour Party will accept offers for a national leaders’ debate between leaders of political parties that are capable of forming government after the October 1st election.

“This debate must be accessible and distributed on television, radio and the internet and make provisions for the differently abled to access the content.

“The Progressive Labour Party will send party representatives to accessible debates that include individuals such as leaders of minor parties and independent candidates.

“The PLP’s leader and candidates have also accepted an invitation to a candidate forum organised by Youthnet, which will allow members of the public to directly interact with our leader and candidates and are happy to participate in other candidates’ forums which may be organised.”

In effect, this means as the FDM is fielding 15 candidates which is not sufficient to form a Government any debate would have to be between the PLP Leader and OBA Leader, and as the debate must be “distributed on television, radio and the internet” it would have to be done by a media outlet[s] with the ability to distribute across all those three mediums.

The General Election is set to take place on October 1st, which is 12 days away.

  1. Hey says:

    Becoming sick of Burt’s Arrogance.

    • What says:

He is a frightened guy! If he can’t control the microphone he runs away! A real weak chicken sh*t!

    • Answer says:

Most of Bermuda is tired of the weakest opposition in history lead by the weakest leader.

      • Cow Polly says:

most of Bermuda is tired of Burt’s unfulfilled promises!

        • Answer says:

Most of Bermuda will speak on Oct 1st and you will be fired like the obaaaUBPErrrrs. Surrogates will not help you win anymore.

          • Anbu says:

And the plp will not help you survive either u friggin muppet. U will receive every ounce of suffering u deserve lmao. Keep lickin that boot

      • Toodle-oo says:

Aren’t you elated that they’re weak and tired ?
Just imagine what you’d be calling them if they had a fire in their belly and didn’t have the tripartite PLP combined opposition to deal with !

      • Hey says:

How do you know what others are thinking, you don’t. You can only know what you yourself are thinking.

Bean called it on Burt and the PLP. He knows their playbook and has expressed his opinion on it.

      • wahoo says:

Speak for yourself. I am tired of Mr. Burt limiting the press, taking credit for the effort and sacrifice that all real born Bermudians made to keep Covid at bay. I am tired of the plp hiring unqualified consultants, buying new cars and not creating new jobs. I am tired of the plp hiding behind terms like systemic racism without proof of it. Generally I am tired of plp and all their lies. They are not taking Bermuda forward. Burt math sucks we know this because 36 divided by 3 equals 12 and the FDM have 15 candidates so….

  2. kevin says:

Why bother who gives Burt the authority to say who should or should not be there he is more than arrogant who died and made him God he is so an I person and its all about him he has to be the weakest leader of any organization on island he couldnt spell the word TEAM even if he was given the letters in the right order

  3. sage says:

Bozo scared to debate Marc Bean.

  4. Ringmaster says:

Won’t debate, won’t issue a manifesto, won’t….. Premier Burt thought he only had the OBA to fight, but has realised his call for a General Election has backfired badly. October 2 should be interesting. Remember the “we had to deceive you” when Dame Jennifer Smith was outed?

  5. Ringmaster says:

Premier Burt is probably concerned that there are a number of PLP MPs, who if the FDM get a good showing might defect. The PLP is full of ex UBP MPs who are only concerned in being employed as an MP, otherwise they are unemployable, They have shown there allegiance before which is the $.

    • no more swing voters ubpoba says:

You talk like your in a party that’s 98% white and the only pillar of strength left is the 2% blk that you have as fronts. In less than 13 days the 2% will leave again.

      • Toodle-oo says:

If you’re able to make claims that people talk like they’re in a party that’s 98% white then others are perfectly entitled to say that you’re talking like someone who’s in a party that’s 98% black.
So did you have any point other than exemplifying your hate ?

      • swing vote says:

Mr. Cannonier needs to either retire from politics or make another party and get away from the OBA for good. The UBP merging with the BDA to create the OBA was like merging hell with heaven.

The FDM what they represent scares me even more than the PLP. I guess as they say it’s safer to vote for the Devil you know.

      • Come Correct says:

There are 21 black candidates in the OBA and 9 white. What kind of math were you doing exactly?

  6. Watching says:

Anyone who has the ability to win a seat in the house should be allowed to debate with any other person who has that ability. Let’s have a good honest debate prior to the election so that we the voters can decide who is best positioned to represent all of Bermuda. Elected officials are supposed to represent the people who live in Bermuda not just the people who are Bermudian.

  7. Bright and Early says:

So far so good with Hurricane Teddy. May I say I was very unhappy (since I am an OBA voter) that in my constituency there is no one to vote for?? Why is that I prefer to vote OBA not PLP or FDM isn’t it a democratic society and yet because I live in a region where most of the voters go PLP I can’t vote. Something isn’t right here?

  8. Joe Bloggs says:

“In effect, this means as the FDM is fielding 15 candidates which is not sufficient to form a Government any debate would have to be between the PLP Leader and OBA Leader, and as the debate must be “distributed on television, radio and the internet” it would have to be done by a media outlet[s] with the ability to distribute across all those three mediums.”

Right, so Premier Burt does not want a debate at all and he is especially afraid of Marc Bean. Interesting.
