“Racing is for everyone whether you are just getting back on a bike or an avid racer, we have a category for everyone, including the kids who participate for free,” says Jenai Robinson of organising club, Fat Tire Massive.

“Our events are a great way for people to see parts of the island they may not have seen before while getting exercise and enjoying the amazing trails throughout Bermuda.”

Sanctioned by the Bermuda Bicycle Association [BBA], officials will oversee the series of races to ensure compliance with the sporting body’s rules and governing regulations.

“We are pleased with the organisation and planning that the Fat Tire Massive team have done to make the mountain bike series Covid friendly” states Peter Dunne, president of the Bermuda Bicycle Association.

“Masks are required by both riders [except when actively racing] and spectators, only registered participants will be permitted into the official race zones and physical distancing will be monitored.”

Additionally, participants will be required to complete health questionnaires at every race to ensure compliance with current Government regulations. Participants and spectators are asked not to attend races if they or anyone in their household has travelled within 14 days.

Similarly, if participants and spectators have been in contact with Covid-19 positive persons or if they have been required quarantine by health officials, they may not attend races until they have been cleared and given the okay to do so.

A recent change in Government regulations means that events are limited to a maximum of 50 people. The organisers ask that those in attendance be mindful that the Race Zones are limited to registered participants and officials only.

Robinson adds “We are excited to get racing underway and ask that racers and spectators adhere to the requirements to wear masks and remain socially distanced. If everyone follows the event guidelines, we will be able to provide a safe and fun environment.”
