Survey: 76% Satisfied With Government

November 9, 2020

According to a recent survey by Narrative Research Bermuda, 76% of those polled expressed being satisfied with Government’s performance.

A spokesperson said, “Although satisfaction with the Government declined slightly from the record high enjoyed in June, satisfaction remains among the highest it has been in more than 20 years of Narrative Research Bermuda’s polling.

“Currently, three-quarters of residents [76%; down 11 points from last quarter] express being satisfied to some extent, a result that is deeply tied with the Government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It is not all positive news, however, as a growing number of residents express dissatisfaction with the Government compared with three months ago, most commonly attributing their dissatisfaction with the perceived inaction towards the current economic issues.

“During our polling over the past two decades, we have observed a great disparity in satisfaction with the Government between black and white residents on the Island.

“While there remains a difference in satisfaction [83% of black residents satisfied vs. 67% of white residents], it is positive to note that this divide is the narrowest it has been in more than two decades. That is not to say this has always been the case under Premier Burt’s leadership, as a substantial gap in satisfaction between races was observed prior to the global pandemic.

“These results are part of Narrative Research Bermuda’s Bermuda Omnibus® Survey conducted in September 2020 with a random sample of 400 adult residents of Bermuda [18 years of age or older]. The results above are not commissioned by a third party, and were collected independently by Narrative Research Bermuda.

“A sample size of 400 is a well-recognised market research industry standard and provides a representative sampling of Islanders. The survey was conducted by phone from September 9 – 19, 2020. A sample size of 400 surveys collected by telephone allows for a statistical margin of error to within ± 4.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.”

Coincidence I did a survey and 76% of Bermudians do not have clue about how our economy works, only 10% understand that $3B in debt is a bad thing and 60% think that as long as your kid comes home the education system is fine.

      “$3B in debt”

What about the rest of it. $3B in debt is only our current account. What about the pension liability? What about the shortfall in the sinking fund?
