2021 Ag Show To Be Held Virtually On April 23

February 22, 2021

The 2021 Ag Show will be a virtual event, set to be broadcast on Friday, April 23rd, the organisers have announced.

A spokesperson said, “The 2021 Bermuda Agricultural Exhibition will continue this spring with its first-ever virtual event, to be broadcast on Friday, April 23rd, 2021.

“The virtual exhibition will showcase many of the usual exhibits from local students, with the ever so popular entries of exotic chicken and bantam breeds from all around the world, as well as rabbits, pigeons, ducks and guinea pigs also on display.

“Due to ongoing Government safety and health restrictions for Covid-19, the Ag Show Committee have decided there will be no visitors at this year’s event.

“Ag Show Ltd wish to thank main sponsor Axis Capital for their financial backing, as well as all the many other sponsors and volunteers who make this significant cultural event possible. The Agricultural Show is one of Bermuda’s most iconic events, bringing together residents and locals alike since the 1920s to celebrate the island’s unique heritage and talent.”

Antwan Albuoy, Exhibition Director, said: “It is with great excitement that we announce the 2021 Ag Show will go ahead virtually this year. Over the last few months, our committee has met virtually several times to discuss how we can best keep our local culture and traditions alive, given the current state of the world today.

“While the health and safety of our community members, particularly our vulnerable populations and seniors, is a top priority, we wanted to find a unique way to keep the event going for Bermuda’s younger generation.”

Mr. Albuoy said it was difficult last year breaking the news that the event would have to be cancelled to hardworking students who had spent days – and in some cases, weeks and months – preparing their Ag Show displays for the 2020 exhibition.

“Many school children were disappointed their artwork wouldn’t be on display for the community to see last year,” Mr. Albuoy said. “While we did our best to find a way to go ahead with judging, we wanted to make sure the talents of our young people were recognised properly in 2021.”

A spokesperson added, “The public can follow the ‘Ag Show Bermuda’ Facebook page to view a live broadcast of the event on Friday, April 23. Additionally, several categories of children’s art work will be on display at Bermuda Society of Arts in City Hall in Hamilton from Saturday, April, 10 to Monday, May 3.

“This includes submissions by preschools, primary schools, middle and secondary schools – both public and private – as well as special schools and The Bermuda Homeschool Network.”

“This year’s event will certainly look different from years gone by, but we hope this is a happy middle ground for all those who wish to take part, keeping this important national tradition and aspect of our local culture alive,” Mr. Albuoy said.
