Road Closure Advisory: Bermuda Day Events

The Ministry of Public Works is advising of the following road restrictions that will be in place on Friday, May 28th for the 2021 Bermuda Day events.

The Road Traffic [Sinclair Packwood Memorial Bicycle Road Race Variation of Speed Limits] Order 2021

A Government spokesperson said, “In exercise of the power conferred upon the Minister charged with responsibility for Public Works by Section 7[2A] and [2B] of the Road Traffic Act, 1947, the following Order is hereby made:-

  • 1. This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic [Sinclair Packwood Memorial Bicycle Road Race Variation of Speed Limits] Order 2011.
  • 2. This Order applies to the contestants and to the vehicles attendant on the contestants in the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Cycle Race to be held on Friday, 28th May 2021.
  • 3. The speed limits fixed by Section 7[2] of the Road Traffic Act, 1947 in respect of the roads outside of the municipal area of the Town of St George and the City of Hamilton specified in the second column of the Schedule [the “relevant roads”] are hereby varied to the extent specified in the first column of the Schedule in respect of the contestants and the vehicles attendant on the contestants in the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Bicycle Road Race.
  • 4. The relevant roads or parts thereof specified in the third column of the schedule are hereby declared to be subject, at times specified in the third column of the schedule, in respect of the contestants and the vehicle attendant on the contestants in the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Bicycle Road Race, to the speed limit specified in the first column thereof.

Schedule

  • Speed Limit: 75 kilometres per hour
  • Roads: Starting on York Street in St George and heading west towards the City of Hamilton. Continue west along Mullet Bay Road onto the Swing Bridge then onto Kindley Field Road. Follow Kindley Field Road and The Causeway onto North Shore Road to Flatts. Then travel west along Middle Road towards the City of Hamilton onto Cavendish Road then Reid Street. Travel west on Reid Street, then turn left and travel south on Court Street then turn right on Front Street and travel west to Queen Street. Turn Right then travel north to Church Street then turn right and travel east on Church Street, then turn left on Cedar Avenue and travel north. Continue north and end the race at the junction of Cedar Avenue and Dundonald Street.
  • Times: 8.15am to 9.45am

2021 Bermuda Day Events – Friday 28th May 2021

Routes:

  • 1. Marathon Derby: Mullet Bay Road, Kindley Field Road, The Causeway, Blue Hole Hill, North Shore Road, Hamilton Parish, Middle Road, Smiths and Devonshire Parishes, Cavendish Road, The Lane, Crow Lane into the City of Hamilton, leaving the City of Hamilton then onto Cedar Avenue, Marsh Folly Road, Dutton Avenue and finishing at Bernard’s Park.
  • 2. Junior Classic Run: Front Street, Queen Street, Church Street, King Street, Victoria Street, Cedar Avenue, Marsh Folly Road, Dutton Avenue to Bernard Park.

Traffic Control:

“All traffic including pedal cyclists [but excluding the official vehicles preceding the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Cycle Race, the Marathon Derby Race together with buses and emergency vehicles following the runners] will be diverted off the Marathon Route between the hours of 8:30am and 12:00pm.

“Traffic flowing in the opposite direction to the runners will have free passage except on Mulley Bay, Kindley Field Road, Blue Hole Hill, North Shore Road, Middle Road, and Cavendish Road.

“Persons intending to enter the City of Hamilton, the following procedure will be in place: Motorized traffic will be allowed to cross over and enter through the half Marathon race route at only the following junctions.

  • Middle Road & Harrington Sound Road to North Shore Road, Flatts.
  • Tee Street and Middle Road to Orange Valley Road and Middle Road.
  • Hermitage Road to Vesey Street.
  • Brighten Hill to Barkers Hill

Roads Closed:

  • Mullet Bay Road – Between Kindley Field Road and York Street, St George will be closed to all traffic from 8.15am until opened by the Police.
  • Kindley Field Road – Between St David’s Road and The Causeway will be closed to all traffic except for access for residents from 9.00am until opened by the Police.
  • Blue Hole Hill – Between The Causeway and North Shore Road from 9.00am until opened by Police.
  • North Shore Road – Between Blue Hole Hill and Middle Road near Flatts from 9.00am until opened by the Police.
  • Middle Road – From North shore Road near Flatts to Cavendish Road from 9.00am until opened by the Police.
  • Canal Road – Between Marsh Folly Road and Laffan Street will be closed to Traffic except for access for residents from 9.00am to 11.30am
  • Cedar Avenue – From City Boundary to St John’s Road junction between 1:30pm until the parade passes.
  • Marsh Folly Road – From St John’s Road to Dutton Avenue between 1.30pm until the parade passes.
  • Dutton Avenue – North Street to Marsh Folly Road in Pembroke will be closed to all traffic from 6:00am. to 8:00pm
  • Palmetto Road & Marsh Folly Road – Between Bishop Spencer Road to Dutton Avenue between 10.30am and 6.30pm to westbound only traffic or until re-opened by Police.
  • Black Watch Pass – Between 10.30am and 6.30pm to south bound traffic between 1.30pm until re-opened by Police.
  • Crow Lane – North Roundabout [The Lane] to City of boundary [westbound only] from 1.45pm until re-opened by Police.
  • Pitt’s Bay Road – From Woodbourne Avenue to Bermudiana Road
  • Gorham Road – Between Woodbourne Avenue and Bermudiana Road

No Parking:

  • North Shore Road – Between Blue Hole Hill and Middle Road near Flatts, will be no parking to all traffic from 9.00am until opened by Police.
  • Middle Road – From North Shore Road to Cavendish Road will have no parking to all Traffic from 9.00am until opened by the Police.
  • Cavendish Road – Between From Middle Road to Lane Hill will have no parking to all Traffic from 8.00am until opened by the Police.
  • Marsh Folly – Between St John’s Road and Dutton Avenue from 8.00am until re-opened by Police.
  • Dutton Avenue – Between Marsh Folly Road and North Street from 8.00am until re-opened by Police
  • Blackwatch Pass – Between Marsh Folly Road and North Shore Road from 8.00am until opened by the Police.

“In addition, the Bermuda Police are hereby authorised to “Close-Off” streets or portions of streets, restrict and authorise parking as the Commissioner of Police decides.”
