‘The Natural Heart’ By Artist Nicky Gurret
Nicky Gurret’s art piece “The Natural Heart” was recently installed on a concrete block wall located on the Railway Trail near Sound View Road, Sandys.
A spokesperson said, “Nicky Gurret, an artist of different mediums, has turned her creative energy to designing a piece of eco art for the Bermuda Railway Trail.
“Ms. Gurret’s ‘The Natural Heart’ was recently installed on a concrete block wall located on the Railway Trail near Sound View Road, Sandys with the advance permission of the Railway Trail Committee and under the supervision of The Parks Department.
“In 2020, Ms. Gurret applied for the installation and received her permission several months later as the the Railway Trail Committee only convenes a few times a year. The piece is accompanied by words from Corinthians 13:4-12 on love.
“The installation will be in place for a maximum of three months. Ms. Gurret is an artist and architect who established the Bermuda Sand Sculpture Competition at Horseshoe Bay that she organised for over 21 years.
“She also created and organised The Bermuda Beach Art Festival for six years, from which in 2020 she published a pictorial table book called Beach Art, Bermuda Therapy. Last year, she published a pictorial book called Floral Art, Bermuda Style. In 2012, Ms. Gurret was co-founder of Pechakucha Bermuda.
“Ms. Gurret said she created the piece in order to give the public comfort and joy whilst walking along the Railway Trail.”
Ms. Gurret said, “During COVID-19, more of the public is exploring nature and utilising our parks and railway trails. This installation is for the public and it is a physical reminder of the power of love.”

Congratulations Nicky! There is no such thing as too much love and your artwork will be a pleasant surprise to those who traverse that railway trail section. In my opinion, that wall was crying out for something aesthetically pleasing to be hung up on it, and you met the challenge beautifully.
