“Van Putten, founder of the community education programme Ashay University, has again collaborated with veteran art educator Mrs. Angela Ming-Bean to create an honest rendering of a difficult history in context with the larger, glorious history of African people.

“Written from an African-centered and Pan-African perspective, it is designed for young people ages 13 to 19 and beyond. The colorfully illustrated book challenges young people to grow themselves via self-reflection and study of the history for its valuable lessons, too often omitted from traditional academic curriculums.

“The book’s foreword was contributed by another veteran educator, Mr. Anthony Ball, education therapist at The Berkeley Institute, and his wife, former Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Cheryl Peek-Ball.”

Mr. Ball and Dr. Peek-Ball said, “Young people of all colours and backgrounds deserve to know this side of history. No education is complete without it.”

Mrs. Van Putten said, “This book was written to provide all interested people with access to purposeful knowledge, lessons and inspiration for victorious living.”

The spokesperson said, “The event is free and open to the public; Covid protocols will be observed. For more information, please contact Mrs. Kenisha Shakir [[kashair@gov.bm] or Mrs. Van Putten [melodyevanputten@aol.com]. All of Van Putten’s books will be available for purchase and autographing.”
