July 29, 2021

The Chairman of the Water Safety Council Michael Weeks has called on beach goers and operators of boats and pleasure crafts to make water safety a priority this Cup Match holiday.

In a pre-Cup Match address to members of the Hamilton Rotary Club, Mr. Weeks, reflecting on some of the deadly accidents which have occurred in and around Bermuda’s waters over the past couple of years, urged all boaters to continue to exercise good judgement and to use common sense when in control of a boat this summer season.

The Member of Parliament, along with his colleagues on the Water Safety Council continues to advocate for the implementation of a mandatory competency exam/boater’s card for the general boating public.

He told Rotarians, “There has been a positive response to have this implemented. Everyone will have an opportunity to apply for the exam in accordance with the guidelines that will be put forth”.

In issuing a laundry list of safety tips, Mr. Weeks said here are some safety tips for mariners and Jet Ski operators:

  • Check weather conditions prior to planning your trip or outing.
