Caitlin Conyers Concludes In Zwift Finals

Caitlin Conyers has missed out on a professional contract with the Canyon Sram Team at the Zwift Academy final in Mallorca, Spain.

The Bermudian advanced to the final stage as one of the top three female riders with Maud Oudeman of the Netherlands and Rachel Wales of Australia.

Oudeman won the contract during the final episode of the programme on the Global Cycling Network.

Imogen Alto of Australia and Willemijn Prins of the Netherlands were eliminated earlier in the competition, which began on November 15 with a five-day training camp.

Conyers, 31, will now focus on her ‘fallback plan’ with the Lux Development Team in California, who had already offered her a ride next season before the Zwift Academy finals.

Conyers guest rode for the team at the Joe Martin Stage Race in Arkansas in August.

Alex Bogna of Australia won the Zwift Academy final men’s competition to earn a pro contract with the Alpecin-Felix team.

The opportunity for Conyers came through a twist of fate when she had to withdraw from Bermuda’s team for the UCI Road World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, in September after testing positive for Covid-19.

Rather than dwell on her blow, Conyers competed in races and workouts while quarantining in her bedroom via the Zwift app, the market leader in cycling’s virtual ‘world’ and beat out competition from 150,000 hopefuls to make the Zwift Academy final.

  1. Vote for Me says:

    Congratulations Ms. Conyers.

You represented Bermuda very well to reach the finals of the trials.

Congrats also to Stephen Wright who wrote this article. To often when athletes do not come first, the articles are written in a negative light rather than being constructive.

We look forward to hearing about Ms. Conyers’ future successes!!
