[Updated] Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors Tinee Furbert is holding a press conference this morning [May 8] to unveil an art mural dedicated to the late Mrs. Peggy Wilson. We will have additional coverage later on and in the meantime the live video is below.

Update 5.50pm: Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors Tinee Furbert said, “Good morning everyone, It is a pleasure to join you today as we recognise and celebrate a beautiful mural created in memory of Mrs. Peggy Wilson, a woman whose impact on this community continues to be deeply felt.

“Created by the talented artist Keile Rabain and initiated through the Bermuda Walls Initiative, this mural is located on the wall of the Sammy Wilson Central Zone Community Centre, facing Dellwood School, a place that reflects Mrs. Wilson’s years of care and dedication to young people.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, I wish to express our strong support for initiatives like this that honour community role models and inspire future generations. Public art such as this strengthens our communities and keeps important stories alive.

“Mrs. Wilson began serving at the crosswalk in the early 1980s and remained a constant, caring presence over the years. Her love for children extended far beyond that role, her home was always open, no child went without, and she ensured that those around her felt safe, supported, and valued.

“Many will remember her at Dellwood School, greeting everyone with a warm smile each morning, rain or shine, and even waking up early to prepare snacks for children in need. She gave freely of herself and embodied the true meaning of community.

“Though small in stature, she was a giant in character, and a true example of “it takes a village.”

“Today, as we bring awareness to this mural, may it serve as a lasting reminder of her kindness, her service, and her legacy.

“I would like to thank Mrs. Wilson, her family, Keile, and the Bermuda Walls Initiative for ensuring her story continues to inspire us all.

“Mrs. Wilson, may you continue to rest in peace. Thank you.”
