Bermuda Digest Of Statistics 2021 Released

February 18, 2022

The Ministry for the Cabinet Office released the Bermuda Digest of Statistics 2021 from the Department of Statistics.

A Government spokesperson said, “Data has been provided for the period 2011 to 2020 where possible. The Digest is structured into ten [10] sections and contains brief analyses, quick facts and charts for each section.

“It’s important to note that during 2020, the pandemic led to a number of Public Health Emergency regulations and requirements being implemented to safeguard and protect the community. This included such measures as air and sea border restrictions, limited group sizes, reduced business hours, shelter at home orders and temporary business closures. Therefore, in that context, readers should take the pandemic into account when reviewing the 2020 data.

“Some of the 2019-2020 points of note include:

  • The number of marriages declined by 36% to 248.
  • Government school enrolment fell by 4% to 4,434 students.
  • The number of work permits issued decreased by 32% to 6,639.
  • The number of filled jobs fell by 6% to 32,427.
  • The value of goods imported decreased by 20% to $904.0 million.
  • The number of visitor arrivals fell by 94% to 51,437.

“There are more than 60 statistical tables which provide a wealth of data about Bermuda’s social, demographic and economic conditions. This publication is a useful tool for research, school projects, marketing initiatives and business planning.”
