Police Warn Against Making False Reports

August 18, 2026 | 3 Comments

The police said they have received “reports where the information given was later discovered to be false” and noted that “where a report is found to contain false information, appropriate action may be taken, including criminal prosecution.”

A police spokesperson said, “Since May 2026, the Bermuda Police Service has received a number of reports where the information given was later discovered to be false.

“The public is reminded that making false reports can divert police resources away from genuine emergencies and delay the investigation of legitimate incidents.

“Members of the public are encouraged to report incidents truthfully, to the best of their knowledge and belief, and to provide police with any relevant information.

“Anyone who believes that information previously provided to police was incorrect, or who realises that an earlier statement was inaccurate, should contact Hamilton Police Station, as soon as possible.

“Police will thoroughly investigate all reports received. However, where a report is found to contain false information, appropriate action may be taken, including criminal prosecution, in accordance with the law.”
