Municipal Elections To Be Deferred For One Year
A Bill to postpone the municipal elections is set to be tabled in the House of Assembly this Friday, with the Government saying that the elections will “be deferred for one year to maintain the operational stability of both Corporations pending the determination of the matter now before the Court of Appeal.”
A Government spokesperson said, “Yesterday the Acting Minister of Public Works, the Hon. Wayne Furbert, JP, MP, led meetings with the Town of St. George’s and City of Hamilton Municipalities to discuss Municipal Reform and the upcoming Municipal elections.
“Minister Furbert advised the Corporation of St. George and Hamilton Mayors and Council members that elections would be deferred for one year to maintain the operational stability of both Corporations pending the determination of the matter now before the Court of Appeal.
“The Bill to postpone the municipal elections is set to be tabled in the House of Assembly this coming Friday, 18 February.”
Why this government insists on taking over the corp of Hamilton (I mean aside from power and moneyr)amazes me. There is not one, efficient Bermuda Gov department on the island right now that can be used as a shinning example of what this government can do to make things better. On the other hand the Corporation Hamilton is well run, financials in order, the street are in good condition, trash is picked up when scheduled and there is ongoing progress to improve things and become more inclusive. Why they assume they can do better than they have a history of doing the opposite is mind-blowing.
What else are they hiding.
Everyone is acting and resigning.
Take cover onions.

Apparently the PLP Government hasn’t yet figured out how to take those assests
