Award Winning Storyteller To Perform In Bermuda

April 21, 2022

Grammy nominee and award winning storyteller Diane Ferlatte will perform her show ‘Have I Got a Story to Tell’ in Bermuda from April 28 to April 30.

A spokesperson said, “The incredible Diane Ferlatte has been a full time storyteller for decades. What started as a way of connecting with her adopted son grew to become a career that has led her to perform worldwide.

“Diane Ferlatte was born on March 6, 1945 in New Orleans, Louisiana on the tail end of World War II and the cusp of the Civil Rights Movement. She grew up steeped in stories, spirituals and songs that were shared between her family. After moving to California as an adolescent, she played piano, sang in church choirs and learned sign language – all of which contributed to her storytelling success.

“After adopting her son, Diane noted his string of foster homes had left him with a TV addiction. Diane’s dynamic characterization, expression, and listener participation helped steer her son away from the television and drove him to become an avid lover of stories. One day, when storytelling at a church event a teacher pleaded for Diane to come to her school. News of her talents quickly spread, and she’s been in high demand ever since

“Diane is a firm believer in the power of storytelling for forging connections across race, ability, and culture. With her guidance, she takes audience members on a journey through their own imagination, then gently returns them to their seats having sung, laughed, danced, and learned a little something about the world around them and themselves.

“Diane has received numerous honors including the National Storytelling Network’s Circle of Excellence Award, the National Association of Black Storytellers’ Zora Neale Hurston Award, and The Friends of Negro Spirituals Heritage Keepers Award. In addition to receiving a 2008 Grammy nomination, her recordings have won awards including Parents’ Choice, American Library Association, National Parenting Publications, iParenting Media, Children’s Music Web, and Storytelling World Awards.

“From April 28th to 30th, Diane Ferlatte will be in Bermuda performing seven shows called ‘Have I Got a Story to Tell.’ She will be performing shows for young children, families and adults in different locations around the island.
