A Government spokesperson said, “The Department of Public Transportation is advising commuters that there will be service delays this week and no public bus service tomorrow, Tuesday, 12 April from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

“Last week, the Department responded to questions regarding cancellations and delays. The issues stemmed from resource shortages, including a backlog in the shipment of tires for the diesel fleet. The bus maintenance challenges have resulted in fewer buses in service and increasing cancellations. The new tires will be delivered this week.

“The purpose of tomorrow’s meeting with Bus Operations staff at the BIU headquarters will is to discuss ways to reduce cancellations and boost the service levels. Therefore, there will be no service tomorrow between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm.

“In addition, the Department is preparing the electric buses for service and providing training for bus operators and maintenance staff. To date, 90% of bus operators have passed certification and are qualified to drive. The maintenance training is considerably more detailed and management and staff are committed to education and continuous development.

“On Wednesday 13 April, the Minister of Transport, the Hon. Lawrence Scott, JP, MP will hold a press conference. Immediately following, the media will be invited to ride on one of the electric buses.

“The Department is working to improve overall services and apologizes for the temporary interruption of service tomorrow. Cancellations will continue to be posted at gov.bm/bus or 292- 3851.”

  1. Southampton says:

Bermuda bus service is i dependable. We need a private bus service.

  2. comfortably numb says:

Does the ‘government spokesperson’ not appreciate the supreme irony of stopping all service for three hours to ‘boost service levels’? Presumably the 3 hour meeting will start 30 minutes late in line with the Emperor’s press conferences? Sadly, there will be little or no outrage as this has become the norm. May as well save some money and fire all management as it’s crystal clear who is in charge of the public transportation and it’s not management or the ‘deer in the headlights” Scott.

  3. puzzled says:

    Great.
Two cruise ships and people needing transport.

    Way to go PLP.

  5. Question says:

Just what we need, with cruise ships in.
Just don’t expect to put my taxes up to pay for this s& it. When you’re all unemployed, you’re on your own. You brought it on yourselves.

“No Bus Service On Tuesday From 10am to 1pm”

Yes, but will anyone notice a difference in service?

  7. Sandgrownan says:

To figure out how to improve service, we’re going to withdraw service for a meeting.

You could t make this up. Only in Bermuda.

  8. Curious Bystander says:

They are cancelling services to have a meeting about not cancelling services. That’s funny. But seriously, the first thing to do is what most large businesses do. Instead of one large meeting, have a few smaller meetings so business can run as usual. Then combine the results of those meeting and report (not in a mass meeting) those results to the members.

  9. WoW! says:

Gee I have an idea, how about cutting out stoppages just for meetings!! There is a thing called multi media technology. Oh the irony! SMH!

  10. Ringmaster says:

So it appears that management have no clue how to run the service. 90% of the drivers are now certified to drive an electric bus, but few are available because of maintenance issues. Meanwhile cruise ship visitors, other visitors and locals are left stranded. How about educating the DPT where their paychecks come from. Begin with a week without pay.

  11. David says:

Unbelievable – a disruption in service in order to discuss how to minimize disruptions to service.
