Four Men Arrested In Connection With Murder

The police said that four men have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting in Flatt’s early yesterday morning [July 1].

Speaking a press conference today, the police said, “At approximately 1:10am on Friday, the 1st of July, 2022, the Bermuda Police Service received several 911 calls reporting gunshots that were heard in the area of Flatts Village in particular, outside of the Brightside Apartments in Flatts. Police officers attended to the scene, where they found a man who had been shot. He was lying on the ground inside of the parking lot of the Brightside Apartments in a nonresponsive state.

“Police officers rendered first aid and an ambulance was summonsed, where the man was taken to the hospital and he later succumbed to his injuries. Police officers, also whilst at the hospital, received a report of a second person who had been injured in the same incident with gunshot wounds, also arriving at the hospital, and in inquiry and investigation into that incident commenced.

“As a result of police investigations that have been conducted so far, four men have been taken into police custody and these men are currently in police custody, while inquiries are continuing.

“The injured man, the second injured man who was taken into the hospital, remains in the hospital at his condition is reported to be stable at this time. We can now confirm that the deceased man is named Letrae Doeman and he was 19 years of age at the time of his death.

“Police inquiries have continued and as a result of those inquiries, we are interested in speaking to persons who were traveling along the Flatts Hill and turned onto Harrington Sound Road just about 1:10am on Friday, the 1st of July, and you might have seen two men on a motorbike at the stop sign at the junction of Harrington Sound Road and Flatts Hill.

“We are also interested in speaking to motorists who were traveling along North Shore Road at the time of this incident, who might have seen the victims who were on the motorbike or a motorbike heading west along North Shore Road. And when they approached that junction of Flatts Hill and North Shore Road, outside of the Brightside Apartments, and two bikes, the suspect bike and the victims who were on a motorbike, were engaged in an incident or altercation where the gunshots happened.

“We’re also aware that there was a motor car who had driven by immediately at the time that the two men on the suspect motorbike were leaving the parking lot, outside of Brightside Apartments heading west. That car is important to our inquiries and the persons who were inside of that vehicle and driving that vehicle could make contact with us.

“We’re also interested in speaking to a taxi driver who we believe transported the second injured male from Brightside to the hospital. If you can make contact with us….we’re very grateful for the assistance and will assist us in directing our lines of inquiry. The police also confirmed the four men arrested are aged between their late teens and early 20s.
