BUEI Moray Eels Kids Hour Set For August 20
The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] announced that Moray Eels are the topic for this month’s ‘Kids Hour Saturday’ on August 20th.
A spokesperson said, “Kids Hour Saturdays’ takes place every third Saturday of the month at 11am and 2pm respectively. Each hour features the screening of short films followed by a book reading for children aged 5-12 years old.
“August’s ‘Kids Hour’ will feature one short film entitled ‘Moray Eels are Straight out of Alien’, followed by a reading of the book ‘Elroy the eel’ by Jacqui Shepherd. The film, ‘Moray Eels are Straight out of Alien’ informs viewers of the many ways that different kinds of moray eels vary and yet still remain scary sea creatures of the deep. This short documentary also explores many characteristics of moray eels and how these vary among the two hundred moray eel types.
“The book for this month’s ‘Kids Hour’, ‘Elroy the eel’, tells an entertaining story of Elroy’s deep-sea adventures, while highlighting how being thankful can have a positive impact. With full-colour illustrations and fun facts about moray eels sprinkled throughout, this book brings the undersea world to life and is sure to stand out.”
Karla Lacey, CEO of the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, says, “We are happy to provide the opportunity for kids to learn more about these great creatures of Bermuda’s oceans. And, as moray eels are endemic to Bermuda’s own aquatic ecosystem, this month’s ‘Kids Hour’ should have a familiar feeling of home to it.”
A spokesperson added, “Kids Hour Saturdays are free for members [Single Parent through Adventurer Tier] and $2.50 per child for non-members. Please note that caregivers must stay on site during the Kids Hour. Spaces are limited so advanced registration is encouraged. To register for BUEI’s Kids Hour, please call 294-0204 or visit our website at www.buei.bm.”
